Smart Shoes for Diabetic Patients
Prof. Zoltan Pataky, MD, is Head of the Unit of Therapeutic Patient Education at the University of Geneva in Switzerland and director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research in the Field of Education and Long-Term Follow-up Strategies for Chronic Diseases.
Dr Pataky is the initiator of the Smart shoe project for the prevention of lower extremity amputations in diabetic patients. In collaboration with École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), he develops an intelligent insole able to adapt the softness automatically during walking in order to off-load the at-risk foot zone.
He is also a specialist in obesity prevention and treatment and he is running an Obesity and Bariatric Surgery Center in University Hospitals of Geneva.
