Speaker: Dr. Ashkan Vaziri, CEO of BioSensics LLC
Short Bio: Dr. Vaziri is a Co-Founder and CEO of BioSensics, a biomedical firm focused on the development of wearable sensors and digital platforms for clinical trials, patient monitoring and telehealth. Prior to joining BioSensics in September 2019, Dr. Vaziri was a tenured Professor of Engineering at Northeastern University, where his research was mainly focused on materials science, biomechanics, computational modeling and numerical simulations. In 2010 and 2012, Dr. Vaziri was awarded with the AFOSR YIP and NSF CAREER, respectively. Dr. Vaziri has authored 150+ journal papers, 250+ conference proceedings, and three issued patents with 8,300+ citations (h-index=51). He has served as a PI or Key Investigator on over 20 industrial, national and international grant awards.
Dr. Vaziri work presents a unique combination of academic research, product development, and small business experience. He co-founded BioSensics in 2007, when he was a Research Associate at the Harvard School of Engineering. Since its establishment, BioSensics has created new paradigms in using wearable sensors in healthcare and revolutionized the medical alert industry by creating technologies that are now being used by thousands of older adults. In August 2019, Best Buy Co, Inc. acquired parts of BioSensics’ assets. Dr. Vaziri is now leading BioSensics’ efforts related to the development of novel wearable sensors and digital platforms for clinical trials, as well as the expansion of BioDigit Database – a comprehensive dataset of disease-specific digital biomarkers that includes clinical, sensor and digital data collected from different patient populations. BioSensics solutions are now empowering novel healthcare initiatives and important clinical trials in a variety of therapeutic areas. BioSensics was awarded the Tibbett’s Award in 2020 by the U.S. Small Business Administration as one of the most innovative and impactful small businesses in the country.
